Lips are extremely soft and more prone to dryness compared to our other body parts. And that’s why lip balm becomes a part of every girls (or guys) essentials. But most of us would have noticed that after few hours of applying the lip balm, the lips feel drier and then we need to apply it again.
Actually most of these lip balms form a barrier between the lip and the air outside thus locking out any moisture that lips would get from the air.
Thus, while you may be applying coats of these lip balms to wade off dryness, these may be the very cause of your dryness!!
On the other hand homemade lip balms are way better than store bought lip balms as they sinks into your lips and seal the moisture. And the most encouraging fact is that these are very easy to make and whole process takes just 10 minutes!!
- Beeswax (1 tablespoon grated)
- Honey (preferably organic)
- Coconut oil (1 tablespoon)
- Essential oil (optional but highly recommended!!)
Heat water in a pan and place the beeswax in a bowl in this hot water (only the bottom should be submerged in the water).
Once the beeswax has melted, lower the flame and add the coconut oil followed by the organic honey and keep stirring this mixture.
After it’s all blended, remove it from the boiling water and add few drops of essential oil (whichever you like) and keep pour this whole mixture in a container (your old lip balm tube) and place it in the refrigerator for 2 hours. Later it can be stored at room temperature and used whenever required!!
Other (optional but fun) ingredients to experiment with:
1. You can also add butter (shea or cocoa or mango) to the above ingredients while melting the beeswax. It will make your lips very supple!
2. You can add rose petals (or any other flower of your choice) in the mixture before freezing it. It will give it a very exotic look.
Once a week use a homemade lip exfoliator before applying the lip balm as it will help to remove the dead skin from the lips. So try it out yourself and let me know your experience with it!!
